Format & Rules


Rules:

  • Proof of age will be required as requested at the tournament site
  • National Federation Rules
  • All Open affiliated teams can compete in this division
Format:
  • Pool Play followed by single elimination tournament
  • Every team is guaranteed at least 3 games
  • Teams will stay at the same venue throughout pool play
  • Two 14 minute halves (running clock) *10 minutes for youth games
  • Clock will stop last 1 minute of each half for all dead balls
  • Teams will get three 30 second timeouts for the game
  • There will be only 1 overtime played in pool play of 5 minutes running clock (clock will not stop for any dead balls, except for timeouts)
  • Teams will be allowed to have one 30 second timeout in overtime
  • For bracket play, continuous overtimes will be played until a winner is determined
  • Only 1 timeout per each overtime will be allowed in bracket play
Other Rules
  • Home teams will be listed first on the schedule. The highest seed will be the home team in bracket play
  • Play will be governed by the National Federation of High School rules unless noted
  • High School athletes are responsible for being aware of AHSAA 20-21 rules




Age Divisions


Divisions are subject to change. 6U 8U 10U 12U 14U 16U 18U Age Determination Date: August 2, 2020 Divisions will be split by gender.




Fees & Deadlines


$200/team DEADLINE: June 10, 2021 There will be NO REFUNDS of entry fees because of rain or other acts of nature, or if an athlete or team fails to participate. Sports using outdoor sites are weather dependent. Competitions will be conducted unless State Games officials determine otherwise, or if the playing fields would incur significant damage. Awards & Qualifying


Alabama State Games gold, silver, and bronze medals will be awarded to members of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams. Basketball (5 on 5) is a Medal Sport for the State Games of America (SGA) event. Those who medal in the 2020-2022 Alabama State Games Basketball tournament qualify to compete in the 2022 SGA, held July 27 - July 31 in Ames & Des Moines, Iowa. Participants in the Alabama State Games are responsible to check event format and age groups for all SGA qualifying sports offered at the Alabama State Games.
